Life Skills & Livelihood Preparation

In today’s rapidly changing world, one of the most urgent questions young people face is:
Will there be enough jobs for everyone in the near future?

As industries evolve and automation reshapes the job market, securing a stable livelihood while pursuing meaningful career aspirations is becoming increasingly challenging. The IT and media industries, once seen as promising career paths, have witnessed mass layoffs, leaving many professionals without security or alternatives.

At the same time, traditional occupations such as agriculture, handlooms, pottery, and crafts are declining due to industrial production and imported goods. While these professions were often tied to caste and class-based inequalities, modern careers do not always guarantee financial stability or social mobility either.
Navigating this complex landscape requires more than just technical skills—it demands adaptability, informed career choices, and the confidence to shape one’s future.

Our Initiatives on Life Skills & Livelihood Preparation

Career Guidance & Livelihood Planning Workshops:

Our Career Guidance workshops help young people explore their aspirations, ambitions, and the dilemmas they face in choosing a career. We recognize that career choices are shaped by gender, caste, class, and location, and we create safe spaces where youth can think beyond socially imposed limitations.
Through these workshops, participants:

  •  Gain insights into emerging career opportunities

  • Reflect on their strengths, motivations, and long-term goals

  • Develop strategies to build fulfilling and secure livelihoods

Additionally, we offer exam preparation sessions, Spoken English courses, and Computer Literacy training through our Youth Resource Centres (YRCs) and Baduku Centre for Livelihoods Learning.

Livelihood Education at Baduku Centre for Livelihoods Learning

At Baduku, we go beyond technical and vocational training. We equip young people with:

  • Life skills to navigate challenges with confidence

  •  Socio-political awareness to understand systemic barriers

  • Knowledge & rights awareness to make informed decisions

Our approach ensures that youth not only gain employable skills but also develop the dignity, self-respect, and critical thinking needed to thrive in the workplace.

Mentoring & Professional Career Training

We offer one-on-one mentoring for students at Baduku and the YRCs, especially during times of transition or crisis.
For those passionate about guiding others, our Diksoochi course trains Professional Career Guides, empowering them to support young people in making informed career decisions.
